Use the level meter to preview prior to recording. Set up levels, then close the level meter before starting the actual recording program. However, it is now possible to add a tool called 'Wave Clone' which will allow simultaneous use of the meter and other audio programs. Visit the Wave Clone. For voice operation, the meters should just barely hit 100% of the un-squelched white noise value on voice peaks. For sound card digi-mode applications or packet TNCs, audio levels of the transmitted tones should be around 3 Kz deviation (about 60% of the 5 KHz peak voice deviation level). V2.7 was a major upgrade that added support for up to 7.1-channel surround and the ability to analyze audio and the audio parts of video files offline for their BS.1770-4 Integrated Loudness, EBU R 128 LRA, highest reconstructed peak level, and number of reconstructed peaks above 0 dBFS.
